MJ Hibbett & The Validators: A Church Hall Of Sound

Cassettes: A Church Hall Of Sound

Buoyed up by how well What's So Bad About Being A Grown-Up had gone I returned to the attic later in 1997 for what's probably my favourite of all these tapes, A Church Hall Of Sound. This one featured several songs that would get re-recorded, not least on A Church Hall Of Sound (revisited) which was then collected onto Warriors of Nanpantan. It's also got the original version of If You Need Loving, a cover of Geneve by John Otway, my favourite ever not-properly-released song (of mine anyway) Down The Narborough Road and lots of other songs that were big earners in my live set for quite a long time. It felt like a big step forward for me - all the songs turned out how I hoped , none were stupid for the sake of stupidity but none were po-faced and dull either, and it still sounds rather nice to me even now.

Tracks:
This Is A Song
The Peterborough All-Saints Wide Game Team (group B)
Crying
Down The Narborough Road
Before I Was Cool
We Must Go Into Europe
