Songs: Payday Is The Best Daynotes / gigs / releasesOh how i long for the last working day of the month Published by Wipe Out Music Publishing This was written originally for What's So Bad About Being A Grown-Up, but it didn't come out as well as I'd hoped so I left it off, and ended up giving it to the french fanzine tape Metropolit@n Audio #1. The words came about at a time in my glittering career when I'd always be skint at the end of the month, and so really did look forward to payday, and really did do the things mentioned in the song. When we came to do the sessions for Say It With Words I bought it a band rehearsal and it worked out pretty well almost straight away, and it ended up going into the live set for a REALLY long time, and was our default Last Song for AGES until Easily Impressed USURPED it. Tom from Reveal Records chose it to release as a single, in a (doomed) attempt to get some interest going for the album itself, and everybody seemed to like it - odd really for a song that I didn't like at first! Of note in the recording is that I think this may have been the first thing Tom recorded with us. I'm not sure but it may also be the only time I've been allowed to record my ACE KAZOO SKILLZ. Also, the "reprise" of this at the end of the album is actually the end of the normal version chopped off and stuck there - it went on a bit too long to keep for the song itself, but it ended so well we didn't want to lose it. |
