Songs: We Are The Validatorsnotes / gigs / releasesPattison, Pattison, McClure, Machine and Me Published by Wipe Out Music Publishing This was written on February 5th 2005 on the TRAIN on the way home from LEEDS at the end of our mini-tour of Yorkshire. It was all written in my HEAD with the music worked out quite a bit later. The song started while i was sat on the train, thinking about having a song about US with which to start gigs, and GREATLY helped by the small crowd of ageing Merchant Ivory Punks who came and sat near me. As usual in these situations I thought "PAH! I am SO MUCH more PUNK than YOU! I don't need to LOOK different, i AM different", and then thought I might as well put that in the song too. The bit about "a little bit of alliteration" is a BIT that I've had for YEARS with nowhere to go, as is saying "We ARE them". "Archetypal" was a VERY pleasing rhyme for "St Michael", which I thought to stick in after me and Emma had had a post-gig chat about Marks & Spencers - NONE MORE ROCK! I arrived in London with the whole thing buzzing round my head in a bit of a PANIC in case I forgot it, and moved the order of the "We are, that's us" bit around in that same BRANE quite a bit before I got back. At this point i started to think of GUITAR SOLOS. Originally I envisioned it SEGUEING into The Gay Train, but as with so many other songs it never happened because The Validators never "Bit". I guess maybe a song about BEING The Validators should be one of those songs that we write AS The Validators. |
