Songs: You can shout all you like

notes / gigs / releases

You're shouting that all drugs are wrong
Different parties, same old song
You shout they're all the same from smack to pot
And then you're acting all surprised
As more and more teenagers die
Maybe you should have told them that they're not

You're shouting at our wayward youth
Instead of telling them the truth
That it was you who sold them out of jobs
Maybe they would respect the law
If they had futures anymore
But it's easier to shout that they are yobs

And you can shout all you like
But it still won't make you right
You can shout all you like
But you know however much you shout you won't be right

In the morning, there you are
Shouting in a radio car
At lunchtime you're shouting in a soundbite
You're shouting on the News At Ten
on Newsnight you're shouting again
In bulletins you shout right through the night

And you can shout all you like
But it still won't make you right
You can shout all you like
But you know however much you shout you won't be right

You've lost your old ideas now
You're middle-class and middle-brow
You've well and truly become one of them
But in the sixties you were one of us
You tripped off on a magic bus
What happened to the man that you were then?

One of my first attempts at Proper Grown-Up Songs! I had glorious visions of people singing it on the march, but i guess that was hoping a bit much. When I first recorded the song it sounded a LOT like the original version of The Gay Train, so decided to have a go at doing it acapella A LA Billy Bragg on that Nicuagrua song of his. I did it at gigs and FRIGHTENED people with it, which was GRATE, and then when we reformed VOON briefly all three sang it at gigs. It was ACE!
